Sony C-80 Unidirectional Condenser Microphone

Large voice coil captures exceptional sonic presence

Continuing the fine lineage of sound design, the C-80 uses the same diaphragm material as our legendary C-800G vacuum tube condenser microphone, and is paired with a voice coil based on the C-100's unique high-resolution large voice coil. They are the tools that are respected by the world's top recording studios. The C-80's characteristic peak around 13 kHz provides excellent vocal presence in any mix and captures the fullness of acoustic instruments.

Dual diaphragms reduce proximity effect

Natural vocals and voices can be recorded even when speaking close to the microphone. A low-cut filter eliminates unwanted low-frequency noise, and an attenuation switch function drastically reduces distortion caused by excessive input sounds. Both are built into the microphone for perfect recording in the home studio.

New Technology for Capturing High-Precision Sound

Following on from the C-100 microphone, known for its high-quality sound, we have developed a new microphone voice coil for the C-80,

The acoustic impedance of the backplane is reduced, allowing for higher sensitivity. The voice coil housing and back electrode are made of high-strength, high-insulation polyetherimide (PEI) high-precision resin-machined insulating structural material combined with high-precision machined brass. The diaphragm is covered with a 24-carat gold coating. Through meticulous assembly and processing of these materials, high-precision, high-purity, low-distortion sound effects have finally come true.

When speaking close to the microphone, low-frequency hum and noise can be suppressed for natural and clear voice recording. The front-focus directional characteristics and low-cut filter prevent the microphone from picking up ambient and low-frequency noise, making it ideal for live broadcasts.
