A linear power supply based on new concept

Whatsoever talking about low noise audio application, linear regulator is of no doubt the top performer. After inspecting all the topologies, we found the traditional system is inevitably limited by response time and uneven output impedance due to feedback mechanism. Instead, our system is designed to avoid the influence of feedback while a linear regulator is there to charge the output power reservoir constantly. An isolator block is located between regulator and power reservoir to isolate feedback loop from loading and its dynamics purely depends on the power reservoir that is 20x106uF equivalent to 500 times of general power amplifier capacitance. Although with huge power reservoir, it does not require excessive charging time like rechargeable lithium cells and the capacitance has almost no life cycle limit as long as we take care of its voltage tolerance.

Voltage fine tuning for compensation of voltage drop

The Taupo’s current is specified up to 4 amps. For a mere 0.1-ohm wire resistance, it amounts to 0.4V drop at receiving terminal. To compensate for the voltage loss, we design a voltage fine tuning process for up to 0.5V plus, a safe tolerance for all electronics, at regulator’s voltage. There is usually no need to measure the voltage by equipment. Simple listening is believing process is enough to find the optimum voltage setting.

Comprehensive monitor and protection system

Power supply subsystem is key to system reliability. We take extreme caution to facilitate the integration of Taupo into your setup. Taupo is equipped with powerful 2-core Arm based controllers, one is dedicated to control, another is dedicated to fault monitoring. It constantly inspects the outputs and instantly responds to any abnormal inrush power to loading and shut off completely to avoid damage to precious system.

Integrated mains DC blocking function

A high-quality toroidal transformer is the core of power supply for its low magnetic leakage flux and high efficiency. However, it is also easily adversely affected by any trivial DC voltage in the AC mains. Considering the integrity of whole linear power supply, a DC blocker is integrated to completely immune from core saturation and hum noise.
