Fostex's bio-diaphragm dynamic driver is renowned for its outstanding natural sound reproduction and has been featured in numerous products, earning widespread acclaim. To further enhance unit performance, Fostex has redesigned the TH919 drivers, drawing inspiration from two-way speaker designs. A unique surround design is incorporated around the diaphragm to suppress unwanted vibrations during movement, preventing sound distortion caused by counter-resonance and ensuring consistent diaphragm operation.
The brand has also adopted a newly designed coil for the bio-diaphragm dynamic driver to improve transient response. When paired with the lightweight and elastic bio-diaphragm, this delivers a more natural detail reproduction. Additionally, the use of magnesium alloy components enhances harmonic suppression, further boosting the authenticity of details.
Diaphragm design significantly impacts headphone sound quality, particularly in low frequencies where larger amplitudes are required for accurate reproduction. Uneven diaphragm stress often leads to unwanted vibrations, causing noticeable sound distortion and suboptimal low-frequency performance. The innovative surround design in the TH919 effectively maintains balanced stress during diaphragm movement, ensuring synchronized motion between the edges and center. This enables powerful low-frequency output and, consequently, clearer and more refined midrange performance.
To combine sound quality with aesthetics in the TH919, Fostex collaborated with Sakamoto Otsuzo, a Japanese company with over a century of history. Using the traditional "Urushi" technique, the headphone housings are coated with a black lacquer base, overlaid with silver foil fragments treated with sulfur, resulting in a refined and luxurious look that merges centuries of craftsmanship with pristine audio.
The TH919 feature a new earpad design with an angled surface to fit various head shapes, offering excellent sealing for an immersive listening experience. The dual-layer polyurethane construction includes a soft outer layer for comfort and an elastic inner layer to maintain earpad shape, ensuring high comfort even during extended use.
The TH919 come with newly designed oxygen-free copper cables, utilizing 7N oxygen-free copper for high-purity sound detail reproduction. The PVC outer layer shields against external electromagnetic interference, creating a quieter background. The dual 3.5mm headphone connectors also provide users with flexible cable replacement options.
The TH919 focuses on mid- and high-frequency performance, delivering a wide soundstage with a surround effect that mimics a dedicated audio environment. Its subtly warm mid-to-high frequencies enhance vocal and acoustic guitar imaging, adding depth to the sound and conveying emotions with a natural tonal character.
